Classic foldable/hinged sewing box (notions box).

Since I assumed incorrect values for the width of the hex bolts' barrel, my proof-of-concept is—as you can see in the pictures—a bit crooked! Also, lids are missing at the moment…

Bill of materials:

• the (wood-)cut parts
  The design assumes 3mm; I used HDF.
• wood glue
  Still trying to figure out some clamping mechanism to avoid using (too much) glue
• 28 sex bolts (aka binder screws, screw posts, or Chicago screws)
  Their barrel length should be (at least) twice your material's thickness (which means that the design, as it is, calls for 6mm screws).

What you see is the current beta. Of note:

• erroneously assumed wrong measurements, so the holes for the sex bolts are too wide (6mm instead of 4mm), thus making the box (surprisingly) crooked; need to make sure the sex bolts' barrel diameter corresponds to the width of the holes

• I thought that compartment-overlap might be an issue, so I misimproved it and made that too small (for my tastes anyway; stability might be a non-issue if the holes—see above—were correct)

• as you might have noticed, there's no lids as of yet. ;-)

Implemented optimisation

Please note: There are micro-optimisations in the SVG!

Although originally intended for the holes of the hinges to be spaced 5cm (horizontally) and 4cm (vertically) apart, I didn't want to use a non-natural number for the spacing of the holes on the hinges. (Pythagoras' theorem with 4 and 5 calls for sqrt(41).)

I looked-up close-by Pythogorean triples and found a decent candidate: (39, 52, 65). That way, the holes on the hinge can be spaced exactly 65mm from one another.

But that's also why the top and bottom drawers have their holes pushed 1mm closer to the center drawer (which has been left untouched), while the "outer" holes (relative to the center hole on each of the two sides of the cubes that form the two halves of the whole thing) have moved 1mm away from the center one.

The math worked out fine, but these considerations have to be taken into account when adapting or altering the design.
