Descrição
This was a small 3d printed model I did for a young student, Kayla Keriazes, who was rowing with her prep school crew. She wanted to explore the effect of various hull coatings in a test tank for a science project and had the hull printed at Skinner Models. The school used the Vespoli 4+ Advantage hull but would not provide her with a design file so I reverse engineered one in Rhino3D from direct dimensions that she took as well as photos and what I could glean from the Vespoli website. I have done many such marine design projects working from photos as well as original design.

Instruções
This was modeled in Rhino3d and the submitted to a professional model making firm as an iges file for FDM printing.
This is how the science project fared from a letter from the student.
" Sorry it has taken me this long to update you on the project. My partner and I were extremely pleased to find that the Speedo material (that biomimicked sharkskin) actually did make the model boat go faster and decreased its drag coefficient by 25% which means that it reduced the most drag. We put our presentation together and got it printed on a huge board to use to present at fairs. It really came out nice.
I attended a science fair at Molloy College this past month and presented my project with my partner. The judges seemed really impressed with our ideas and findings. They really liked the model boats too! We were pleased to find out this past week that my project placed in the top 10% at the fair and I will be given an award at the Awards Breakfast that will take place on April 18th. I won’t know exactly what place/award I will be getting until the breakfast. This is just the first science fair that I was invited to. I will be presenting at others and I will let you know if I receive any other awards.
I would just like to thank you once again for all of your help. I cannot explain how much I appreciate it. Without you, this project would have not been possible.
Sincerely,
Kayla Keriazes"
Update to show coins used to ballast the model. Four quarters and one penny brought the model down to about where four oarsmen (oarsgirls?) and one coxswain would on the full size vessel.
