The long lost Parachute roundabout model had ones existed in Al-Wakrah city, Qatar...and we, people who live in Qatar, miss it so dearly.

The Parachute Roundabout model is part of a larger augumented reality project called In Memory of the Roundabouts.

In Memory of the Roundabouts is a critical design in which virtual, non-existing iconic structures of the city are projected into reality to recreate that relationship or empathy to recall a certain memory. It questions the value of the existence of such structures. It’s virtual appearance of being semi-transparent and having an angel
halo and wings emphasizes the idea of a no-longer existing structure. It’s virtual ability to be adjusted and modified via the user gives it the characteristic and the ability to be located anywhere at anytime. Having that opportunity to project virtual structures into real spaces gives the use the chance to recreate that empathic relationship with the roundabout.

This model was constructed by looking at older photographs of the roundabout. Outlines of model were illustrated in Illustrator CC and were exported as a .SVG file. The outlines / roundabout illustration was then imported to 123D Design and was extruded and constructed as a 3D model. Parts of the model is all combined in one piece so that it can be properly 3D printed. Printing with support material is HIGHLY recommended.
