Descrição
I wanted to see my TOM doing its job and holding a flashlight got old pretty fast, so I decide to install LED lighting. I bought an adhesive backed cool white SMD LED strip at Amazon (I am sure there are cheaper alternatives out there but Amazon is "reasonable" and fast) ( http://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Lighting-LED-Ribbon-2026wh/dp/B002QQ1YOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301971588&sr=8-1 ) and its matching PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) dimming control ( http://www.amazon.com/Dimming-Controller-Lights-Ribbon-Volt/dp/B003L4KKF2/ref=pd_cp_hi_2 ).
Instruções
The LED strip can be cut every 3rd LED and after removing the protective material can be soldered again (very well marked + and - ), so I cut 5 pieces and glued it to a piece of cardboard cut to match the Z-Stage. Soldered the connections and attached a long black and yellow wire (to match the 12V color used in the power supply). The cardboard is held in place by the 2 plastruder thumbscrews and a 3rd screw on the back.
I also attached one long strip (circa 50 leds) to the inside of the TOM front plate again soldered pieces of black and yellow wire to it.
I took the PWM out of the case and printed a bracket for it (designed in SketchUp as I am too old to learn Blender :) ). The potentiometer was installed on the unused hole for the front right Z-rod.
The 12 V comes for a spare connector in the power supply (black and yellow). I installed some pins on the PWM connector so I could keep the original connector on the 12V power supply.
The wires are still in a bit of a mess, but I will get some brackets to get them under control and out of the way soon.
The whole thing works really well. I will probably get a more rigid cardboard for the Z-stage ( or maybe just use double sided tape) and stick a few more LEDS in it. All together I may have used 75 of the 300 LEDs that came in the roll.
