I found some glass rain gauge tubes online sold in a package of four. The seller description gave the diameter as 0.86 inch. I made a holder to go into the ground.
Buying four tubes was cheaper than buying a new rain gauge. I gave an extra to a friend, and two more or for children so they can learn about measuring rain at their homes. I got a request for one that would mount on a wooden fence post instead of going in the ground.
This holder holds the tube snugly. If you want a looser fit for the tube you might want to have the slicer make it slightly larger. This would allow you to pull the tube out for cleaning and emptying instead of pulling the holder out of the ground.
The slit in the front allow you to read the lower part of the gauge if you position the tube correctly.
I printed this one lying on its back (slit up) and didn't need supports. I put two holes in the bottom and one hole in the top. When I mounted it I used two screws in the bottom holes. If you want to use the top whole it will need to be something like a nail with a thin head that goes in flush or it will interfere with the glass tube.
