2-Axis Cantilever Gantry System
Technical Overview
The system utilizes a stacked 2-axis Cartesian kinematic arrangement:
- Vertical Axis: A fixed base supporting a vertical rail that drives the carriage up and down.
- Horizontal Axis: Mounted directly to the vertical carriage, allowing a cantilevered arm to extend and retract.
Both axes are driven via herringbone gear-and-rack channels to ensure smooth power transmission, minimal backlash, and self-centering alignment of the gear teeth.

To ensure maximum structural integrity and smooth gear engagement, follow these specific printing guidelines:
Critical Orientation: Rack Gears
- Orientation: Lay the rack gear directly on its angled side on the print bed.
- Reasoning: Orienting the rack on its side minimizes the need for support material within the herringbone teeth profile. This ensures clean tooth geometry, accurate pitch, and prevents tedious post-processing or rough gear movement.
