This is a functional remix of the classic "Friendly Mousetrap" (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:44408). Thank you to the original designer for providing a great foundation!
I have completely redesigned the Main Frame and Door system to be more simplified and to incorporate a modern, sliding cover design for easy maintenance.
Most importantly, it is now designed to integrate a Zigbee Door/Window Sensor so that the capture of a mouse can be detected instantly by your home automation system (like Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, etc.).
I created this remix because our cat occasionally brings a live mouse into the house, and having a smart trap allows for an immediate notification, ensuring the mouse can be safely released as soon as possible. It has already successfully caught a mouse!
#####Key Design Changes##### > - Zigbee Integration: >>The FMT Door component has been modified to hold a magnet, allowing it to work with a standard Zigbee door sensor. When a mouse enters and the door closes, the sensor triggers from 'Open' to 'Closed' (or vice-versa), alerting your smart home system.
> - Sliding Covers: >>The FMT TopCover and FMT FrontCover are now sliding parts, making it much easier and faster to set the bait, check the trap, and safely release a caught mouse.
> - Simplified Design: >>The overall component structure has been simplified compared to the original, making it easier to assemble and print.
#####Required Non-Printed Parts##### > - Zigbee Door/Window Sensor: A standard, small magnetic sensor (https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/CK-TLSR8656-SS5-01(7003).html). > - Magnet: A 3x3x7 mm magnet is required for the door to trigger the sensor. Note: This magnet also serves to hold the door securely closed against the M4 screw once a mouse is inside and must be glued inside the pocket in the door. > - M4 Screw/Bolt: Used as a door lock.
#####Print Settings##### >All parts were successfully printed in PLA with a 0.2 mm layer height and 3 walls. The design requires no supports. A standard infill of 15–20% is recommended.
