I wanted to get this project done quite some time ago, but I've been stuck in my own simulation myself as well.

Print flat without or print upright with supports (depending on the color effect you want with this filament)

If you are using a gradient or a filament that changes colors I highly recommend changing your top layer pattern to Concentric (Cura) or whatever the equivalent is in other slicers.
