Ecology Notes
When it is enraged, its feathers puffs up even more, making look larger as if body tears open like that of deviljho, however it’s just the feathers
Possessed 5 digital structures, although its pinkie is slightly less useful as its doesn’t have the range of motion that the other claws has, its main use is to help puff its feathers up for mating and also for intimidation against others of the same species as the bigger/larger feathers it has, the more its look imposing against others so that they don’t have a full turf war against each other and damaging/hurting each other, (doesn’t work on the Blasspore Phobolonares though as the Variant is more Rabid and aggressive).
It has been observed working together in groups up to 5 hunting Great Thunder Titans
If getting hit by the feathers but not the body, it will cause the hunter to stutter/flinch if they are not blocking/guarding
When Tail is cut, it has harder time to stay balance, as it would start to have balance problems, often using its Forelimbs (if they are not damaged) to help it stay balanced,
If Hunter is under its belly, it would occasionally use its arms to try to cut/gut the Hunter, may applied a bleed effect if hit by the Ripper Claw
Fighting
Normal/Exhausted
Standard Moves
• Bite Lunge: Phobolonares rears back slightly and lunges forward with a powerful bite. It can chain this up to 3 times in quick succession. This is one of its most common attacks and covers a wide arc.
• Head Slam: It raises its head high and slams it down onto the ground, creating a small shockwave that can stagger nearby hunters. Often follows a bite or used when hunters are directly in front.
• Tail Swipe: Phobolonares spins its body and sweeps its massive tail in a 180-360 degree arc. The tail’s momentum creates wind pressure that can knock back hunters even if they dodge the direct hit.
• Hip Check: A quick sideways body slam, often used when turning to face hunters on its flanks. It pulls back briefly before charging.
• Charge: Phobolonares lowers its head and charges forward a short distance, potentially transitioning into a bite or slam at the end.
• Stomp Combo: It stomps one or both hind legs, creating tremors that trip hunters. Can be chained with a tail swipe or bite.
• Feathery Puff: Not an attack, but it expands its feathers, often preceding a charge or lunge if you’re evading.
• Monster Grab (Turf War/Feeding): If other large monsters are nearby (e.g., Great Jagras), it grabs one in its jaws and flails it as a bludgeon or throws it at hunters, inflicting Defense Down. It may also eat corpses to heal.
Agitated
When it starts getting Agitated
• Flame Breath: Phobolonares ignites its mucus and spews a straight-line fire beam from its mouth/nose. This deals massive fire damage and inflicts Fireblight; it can sweep side-to-side for wider coverage. Direct hits are narrow but devastating.
• Fire Bite: A biting lunge infused with flames, exploding on impact for area-of-effect fire damage. Chains faster than the standard bite.
• Persistent Fire Aura: Puffs of flame periodically erupt from its head, damaging and Fireblighting anyone too close. This passive effect lasts throughout the enraged state.
• Enhanced Speed and Aggression: All standard moves (bites, charges, tail swipes) become quicker with shorter wind-ups, and it prioritizes chasing over resting. Breaking its head or legs can topple it and temporarily extinguish the fire, preventing flame attacks for the rest of the enrage.
Bite Combo: Phobolonares snaps its jaws forward in a multi-hit chain (up to 3-4 bites). Often used after a roar or when hunters are in front; the final bite can pin and devour downed hunters.
• Chin Slam: It rears its head back high and slams it down like a hammer, creating a ground shockwave. Telegraph: Obvious upward head lift. Can chain into a tail whip.
• Tail Whip: A powerful sideways tail swing, covering a wide arc behind it. Hunters on its sides or rear are prime targets.
• Leap Attack: Phobolonares crouches and leaps forward a significant distance, landing with a body slam or bite. Used to close gaps quickly.
• Hip Check/Body Slam: A rushing body slam from the side, pulling back before barreling into hunters. Can follow a turn or roar.
• Stomp: Heavy foot stomps that generate tremors, tripping hunters in a small radius. Often chained with bites.
• Monster Grab (Turf War/Feeding): If other large monsters are nearby (e.g., Great Jagras), it grabs one in its jaws and flails it as a bludgeon or throws it at hunters, inflicting Defense Down and may also burn the hunter. It may also eat corpses to heal. If small monster, the Small monster has a chance of dropping cook meat (50% burnt Meat 33% Rare Steak, 12% Well Done)
Enraged
• Dragon Breath: A sweeping horizontal stream of dragon-element mist from its mouth, inflicting Dragonblight. It exhales at least twice in succession and can arc it 180 degrees. High damage and wide coverage—keep distance.
• Dragon-Infused Bites/Slams: Standard bites and chin slams gain dragon element, adding blight and chip damage. The pin-devour becomes deadlier with elemental buildup.
• Enhanced Leap and Charge: Leaps cover more ground with dragon trails, and charges end in explosive dragon bursts. Tail whips extend further with elemental aftershocks.
• Counter Bite: After being staggered (especially in the chest), it feints a recovery and counters with a dragon-charged bite. Hitting during the wind-up can interrupt and topple it.
• Persistent Dragon Aura: A hazy dragon emission surrounds its head, periodically blasting minor dragon damage to nearby hunters.
• Phobolonares Swing: Basically, Phobolares will hit this pose and swing its mandibles from through out his entire body length
Breakable Parts
Head: knocks it out of its Enraged State, causing it to stutter, it has harder time to do element mouth attacks, (dragon and fire do less damage)
Forelimbs: breaking the Forelimbs will give it harder time to be stable, also stops it from giving the Hunters the bleed.
Right Hindleg: make it easier to flinch and harder for it to counter, sometimes causing it to fall on its Right side when it Leaps/Jumps, increase the time length of it doing a stomp on the Right side.
Left Hindleg: make it easier to flinch and harder for it to counter, sometimes causing it to fall on its Left side when it Leaps/Jumps, increase the time length of it doing a stomp on the Left side.
Tail (Breakable and also Severable): breaking it will cause it to stop it from causing the hunter to stutter and get knocbacked while severing it will lower its Tail’s hitbox range, also makes it harder to stay balance, severing it will cause it to start reliant on its forelimbs to help keep it stable and have harder time to turn.
Body: damages the back feathers and decreased the Ruffle Feathers range by 50%,

Moves
If the Hunter is within explosive spore range, they will be infected with Blast Blight
The explosive spores are usually 1.25X within a feathery physical attack (any part of the body that has feathers usually holds explosive spores) while within the feathery tail range, it has 1.5X range
Has similar moves to Phobolonares but more explosive
2 states only Agitated and Enraged,
Standard Moves (Permanent Agitated Baseline) In this state, moves emphasize physical dominance with blast and fire infusions, building toward enrage. Spores are passively released on or near feathery (explosive spores range is within a few meters) contacts, infecting with Blastblight. • Bite Combo: A rapid chain of 3-5 snapping bites, often starting from a turn or roar. The final bite can pin and devour downed hunters, applying severe Defense Down and Blastblight if spores contact. Wider arc and quicker than base Phobolonares; blast explosions trigger on pinned hunters.
• Bomb Bite: is usually followed by a Bite Combo or Counter attack, will Ignite Blastblight, • Explosive Chin Slam: Rears head high and hammers it down, generating a large cloud of explosive spores that lingers and deals ticking blast damage. Can chain into tail whips or leaps; creates hazardous spore clouds on impact, inflicting Blastblight on anyone in range. • Tail Whip: Sweeping 180-360 degree tail swing with explosive aftershocks, knocking back hunters even at range via wind pressure, fire bursts, and 1.5x spore clouds. Feathery tail releases extra spores for wider Blastblight infection. • Leap Slam: Crouches low and vaults forward, landing with a body-crushing slam or follow-up bite. Covers massive ground; ends in a blast explosion if charged, especially if the hunter has Blastblight (detonates for bonus damage). • Hip Check/Body Slam: Sideways rush with a pulling back telegraph, slamming its bulk into hunters. Enhanced version scatters explosive spores and fire embers on hit, applying Blastblight via feathery flanks. • Stomp Combo: Alternating heavy leg stomps creating radial tremors and fire spikes from the ground. Can target specific hunters with aimed quakes; sometimes releases a cloud of explosive spores during stomps, inflicting Blastblight on close targets. • Dragon Breath: Constantly available sweeping horizontal beam or cloud of dragon mist, inflicting Dragonblight and Defense Down. Arcs up to 270 degrees; often chained 2-3 times, with minor blast pops at the edges. • Monster Grab: Grabs nearby large monsters (e.g., Great Jagras, Odogaron) in its jaws, flailing them as clubs or hurling them at hunters for massive Defense Down damage. Eats corpses mid-fight to heal and buff attack power; flailing scatters spores from feathery parts. • Smoke Cloud: Exhales thick dragon-infused smoke clouds that linger and deal ticking damage/Dragonblight over time. Used defensively or to zone hunters; mixes with explosive spores for Blastblight risk. • Bite Lunge: Quick forward snap, chainable up to 3 times. Covers a wide arc; similar to base but with occasional explosive spores for minor Blastblight buildup. • Head Slam: Lifts head and crashes it down, creating a shockwave laced with fire. Telegraph: Obvious rear-back; can follow bites and release spore clouds from head feathers. • Tail Swipe: 180-360 degree spin-sweep with tail, generating wind pressure and blast explosions. Hits harder on the tip with 1.5x spore range; safe spot is under its belly, but risks stomp follow-ups. • Hip Check: Sideways body slam after a brief pull-back, used to reposition. Fast recovery punishes flanks; feathery body contact applies 1.25x spores for Blastblight. • Charge Rush: Lowers head and barrels forward short-to-medium distance, ending in a bite. Can transition to slam; often leaves a trail/cloud of explosive spores, infecting runners with Blastblight. • Stomp Combo: Hind leg stomps causing tremors; chained with tail or hip checks, now with blast quakes that scatter spores. • Feathery Puff: A slight attack where it expands its feathers, increasing the range of its explosive spores by 1.5x with clouds staying 5-10 seconds longer. Often precedes a charge or lunge if you’re evading; applies passive Blastblight to nearby hunters. • Claw Swipe: Swings its forelimbs in a wide arc, slashing with claws for cutting damage. Chains 2-3 times; feathery forelimbs release 1.25x spores on hit, inflicting Blastblight and minor fire burns. Used when hunters flank or after a turn.
Enraged • Explosive Dragon Breath: upgraded breath that ends in a massive area explosion, covering a wide cone and leaving hazardous dragon/spore clouds that tick Dragonblight and Blastblight. • Counter Jaw Slam: After staggering (e.g., head break), feints recovery then counters with a dragon-charged chin slam that pulls in nearby hunters via vacuum effect. Has a harder time executing if tail, legs, or forelimbs are broken; adds blast spores on pull-in. • Aimed Earthquake Stomp: Stomps target a single hunter, creating a directional quake wave laced with dragon spikes for piercing damage and spore bursts for Blastblight. • Persistent Aura Damage: Head emits constant dragon pulses, chipping health from anyone within melee range; intensifies with spore clouds for dual Blast/Dragonblight buildup. • Draconic Chin Slam: Rears head high and hammers it down, generating a large shockwave and dragon energy burst. Can chain into tail whips or leaps; creates lingering dragon clouds mixed with explosive spores. • Feeding Frenzy: Rapidly consumes multiple corpses or grabs, stacking buffs (increased speed/damage) that persist until interrupted (e.g., via dung pods or flashes). Buffs enhance spore output; broken chest interrupts mid-feed. • Dragon Mucus Shot: Snorts draconic snot projectiles in a line or arc, inflicting Dragonblight at range. Weak individually but builds blast charge; dodge by sidestepping, or risk spore infection. • Dragon Bite Combo: Bites now activate Dragonblight, exploding on hit for AoE dragon damage with blast synergy (detonates existing Blastblight). Chains quicker (4-5 hits) with homing dragon sparks chasing dodges. • Dragon Rush: Fully charged dash across the arena, trailing explosive spores and ending in a massive dragon explosion. Telegraph: Heavy charge-up roar and sail sparks; can one-shot without resistance; broken legs shorten range. • Dragon Beam: Sweeps a horizontal dragon beam from its mouth, similar to fire breath but with chaining arcs. Inflicts severe Dragonblight; sweep side-to-side for coverage, laced with blast pops. • Charged Head Slam: Slam now releases radial dragon pulses on impact, zapping nearby hunters with added spore clouds for Blastblight. • Draconic Explosive Aura: Periodic dragon sparks and spores erupt from its body, damaging close hunters and building Blast and Dragonblight passively; feathery parts amplify range. • Explosive Frenzy: If charge builds too high without release, auto-triggers a supercharged lunge exploding all stored dragon energy in a wide nova, scattering massive spore clouds. • Claw Rake Combo: Enhanced forelimb swipes in a frenzy, raking claws 3-4 times with dragon infusions for slashing/dragon damage. Each hit applies 1.25x spores for Blastblight; broken claws reduce hits and add monster flinch.
Ecology facts
Phobolonares has been observed avoiding Blasspore Phobolonares, anytime they smell Blasspores they often go the opposite direction, The few ways that Phobolonares becomes Blasspore Phobolonares is when they enter the moldy Forest within the swampy caverns, other way for Phobolonares to get infected with Blasspores is coming in contact with another Blasspore Phobolonares and fighting as sometimes the Blasspores end up not getting ignited (if the feathers are wet/damp) Blasspore Phobolonares are more aggressive and rabid, their body has higher metabolism, with Blasspores often emanating from its body giving it the appearance of savage deviljho’s dragonblight coming off its back, Blasspores comes from a bright orangey red mold that only exists in the moldy forest, anything that gets too close will often be sprayed with Blasspores spores, which can cause Blastblight. The guild find Blasspores closely related to Devil’s Blight Blasspores Phobolonares has a weaker sense of smell as it often sneeze leaving mucous/snot over the area which are very conductive and flammable
Breakable Parts
Head: knocks it out of its Enraged State, causing it to stutter, it has harder time to do element mouth attacks, (dragon and fire do less damage, with the spore effect decreased by 25%) and stop it from igniting Blastblight Forelimbs: breaking the Forelimbs will give it harder time to be stable, also stops it from giving the Hunters the bleed and decrease the explosive spore range by 25% Right Hindleg: make it easier to flinch and harder for it to counter, sometimes causing it to fall on its Right side when it Leaps/Jumps, increase the time length of it doing a stomp on the Right side and decrease Spore cloud from the stomp, Left Hindleg: make it easier to flinch and harder for it to counter, sometimes causing it to fall on its Left side when it Leaps/Jumps, increase the time length of it doing a stomp on the Left side and decrease Spore cloud from the stomp, Tail (Breakable and also Severable): breaking it will cause it to stop it from causing the hunter to stutter and get knocbacked and decreased the explosive spore range by 50% while severing it will lower its Tail’s hitbox range and explosive spore range, also makes it harder to stay balance, severing it will cause it to start reliant on its forelimbs to help keep it stable and have harder time to turn, Body: damages the back feathers and decreased the Ruffle Feathers range by 50%, and decrease Hip Check, Body Slam and Leap Slam explosive Spore range by 50%
