If you are like me and have an awesome Core XY printer and use a lot of filament, you might also have a ridiculous amount of empty filament boxes that you kept with the idea of somehow re-using the boxes.

This is my solution: FilamentBoxFinity!

No need to use half a filament roll to print a rugged box if a filament box will do the job!

Add a label holder to the box with a custom label and the box can be used to store loose items or extra cables in a neat and easily accessible way. The label holder is based on the Removable Drawer Labels designed by Hands on Katie. I remixed the label holder to fit securely over the lip of a filament box. There are two types of label holders, the Label_holder is for the boxes that open on the top wide side, and the Label_Holder_side is for the boxes that open on the short side. If you use PLA, the label holder does not need any support.

The Insert_Blank can be used if you do not have a label printer. Use your slicer to punch out the text (Embross Text – Negative part) and print the insert in a contrasting colour to the holder. I suggest that you use a stencil type font, to keep the insides of the letters as part of the label.

If you want to store more than cables or big items, you can add a Gridfinity baseplate and Gridfinity bins up to 9 units high (or a combination of 3u and 6u bins).

You can choose to add a custom Gridfinity baseplate that fits snug in the box, leaving a small space on two sides, where other self-contained items can be stored. The second option is to print a custom side bin in vase mode (or Spiral depending on your slicer) and use a standard 4x4 Gridfinity baseplate.

I included a few of the bins that I found useful. When downloading bins, make sure the bins follow the official Gridfinity standard to fit in the 9u space available in the filament box. As reference, 200x200mm fits most filament boxes. Polymaker fits 205x200mm. eSun fits 198*198mm.
