Erilainen heittokoho tai ootto-onki. Ei siis tavanomainen, sillä tämän kohon voi heittää kauas ja ankkuroida paikalleen esimerkiksi tuulisessa tai virtaavassa vedessä. Kohon yhteydessä on paino, joka painuu pohjaan ja pitää kohon paikoillaan.

Tein huvikseni 3D-tulostimella varta vasten tähän tarkoitukseen kohon. Vavasta tuleva siima menee kohon läpi, ja siiman päässä on paino. Siimassa sopivalla etäisyydellä on stoppari, joka säätää "ankkurinarun" sopivan pituuden. Tein tuohon kohoon kalastussiimalle oman "kelan", josta sitten voi purkaa sopivan mittaisen siiman ulos.

Tuolle painolle piti tehdä syvennys kohoon, jotta sen siima ei sotkeudu heiton aikana kalastussiimaan. Silloin paino on osittain piilossa kohon sisällä, mutta veteen pudottua se painuu pohjaan. Pois kelatessa ankkuri nousee ensin pohjasta ylös, ja vasta sitten koho alkaa tulla kalastajaan päin. Siimasotkuja tulee enää vain kalan napatessa ja sitten uidessa sinne tänne ankkurisiiman ympäri.

Kalojahan tällä saa hyvästi, sillä kohon voi heittää sopivaan paikkaan. Tällä koholla voi siis kalastaa myös virtaavassa vedessä, tarvittaessa myös sen vastarannalla. Järvelläkin tuntuu siltä, että aina tuulee järveltä päin, ja tavallinen koho ajautuisi rantaan, mutta tätä ei vastatuuli haittaa. Pienessä lammessa tai kapeassa joessa tällä voi testata ikiaikaista havaintoa, että vastarannalta saa paremmin kalaa. (Ja vastarannan porukka testata samaa asiaa meidän rannan puolelta.)

Tästä voi tarvittaessa tehdä myös perinteisen heittokohon, kun siirtää siimastopparin ihan kohoon kiinni, jolloin paino ei pääse laskeutumaan.

Painoja ja siimastoppareita saa Motonetista yms. Vastaavan kohon voi tehdä ihan puupalikasta tai pullon korkista. Lähinnä ongelmana on tuo siimojen sotkeutuminen heiton aikana.

Olen kuullut käytettävän paikoilleen ankkuroidusta onkilaitteesta nimitystä polo. Lieneekö tämäkin polo?

Ohessa on kaksi erikokoista kohoa, 4cm ja 5 cm, valokuvissa on tuo isompi malli. Lisäksi molempiin tarvitaan tuo lukitusrengas, jolla saa otettua ja lukittua halutun mittaisen kalastussiiman. Teknisistä syistä malli on kooltaan 10-kertainen, skaalaa tulostettaessa 0,1 kertaiseksi. Lopullinen koko on siis osapuilleen 5 x 5 x 7 cm. Tulostettaessa pitää käyttää supporttia.

A different kind of casting float or anchored fishing float. Not the usual type, because this float can be cast far and anchored in place, for example in windy or flowing water. The float comes with a weight that sinks to the bottom and keeps the float in position.

Just for fun, I made a float with a 3D printer specifically for this purpose. The line from the rod runs through the float, and at the end of the line there is a weight. At a suitable distance on the line there’s a stopper that adjusts the length of the “anchor rope.” On the float I made a little reel for the fishing line, from which you can then unwind the desired length.

A recess had to be made in the float for the weight, so that its line wouldn’t tangle with the fishing line during the cast. That way the weight is partly hidden inside the float, but once it hits the water, it sinks to the bottom. When reeling in, the anchor first rises up from the bottom, and only then does the float start coming toward the angler. Line tangles now only happen when a fish takes the bait and swims around the anchor line.

This catches fish well, since the float can be cast to a suitable spot. With this float you can also fish in running water, if necessary even on the opposite bank. On a lake, it always seems the wind comes from the lake toward shore, and an ordinary float would drift into land, but this one isn’t bothered by a headwind. On a small pond or narrow river, you can test the age-old belief that you catch more fish from the opposite bank. (And the folks on the opposite bank can test the same thing from our side.)

If needed, this can also be turned into a traditional casting float by moving the line stopper right up against the float, so the weight can’t drop down.

Weights and line stoppers are available at Motonet and similar stores. A similar float can be made out of a piece of wood or a bottle cork. The main problem is the line tangling during the cast.

I’ve heard that an anchored fishing rig is sometimes called a polo. Perhaps this could also be called a polo?

Here are two floats of different sizes, 4 cm and 5 cm; the photos show the larger model. For both you also need a locking ring, with which you can take out and lock the fishing line at the desired length. For technical reasons the model is scaled up 10×; when printing, scale it down by 0.1×. The final size is roughly 5 × 5 × 7 cm. Supports must be used when printing.
