YARC! - Yet Another Raspberry Case
there are many options for a raspberry pi case on thingiverse - but none quite covered all the features I was looking for... so time to design one :-)
Updates
2015-03-25 added top with groove for CSI ribbon cable and another with CSI+GPIO
there are variants:
for M2.5 screws
completly screw-less snap-together
this case tries to be:
- slender and snugly fitting around the pi
- low profile/height
- not bulky: walls are as thin as possible, but as thick as necessary to be sturdy enough
- closed, to keep dust out (the pi doesn't run that hot anyway...)
- two parts - lower part acting as coaster
- assembled with readily available parts: easy to come by M3 screws
- easy to disassemble - using the mounting holes with easy to come by M3 screws (countersunk M3x16mm) and set-in M3 nuts
- not occlude the status leds
- printable without any support structures
Note: this requires the "mounting" holes to be widened to accommodate the bigger screw - which the raspberry foundation discourages since it might damage the pcb!
Instruções
screws & nuts
M3x16 countersunk screws where used (3mm diameter, 16mm long)
the corresponding nuts can be either press-fitted into their holes - or if you find the holes slightly to tight: heat-set into them (no-tools version: put the nut on a screw and heat it up over a candle/lighter-flame)
3mm holes
what worked for me was was mount a 3mm drill in a cuck and carfully drill out the hole by hand - to not damage/stress the pcb
finishing touches
filling the led-"hole" with hot-meld adhesive or clear silicone-caulk as diffuser works great
