The Alps plotter mechanics can be found in numerous plotters under various brands: ALPS DPG-1302 Astron MCP-40X Atari 1020 Canon X-710 Casio FA-10 Casio FA-11 Commodore 1520 Mattel Aquarius 4615 MCP-40 (not the Oric one) Olivetti PL 10 Oric MCP-40 Sega SP-400 Sharp CE-150 Sharp CE-515P Sharp CE-516P Sharp CE-1600P Sharp MZ-1P01 Sharp MZ-1P16 Silver Reed EB50 Sony PRN-C41 Tandy 26-3605 Tandy CGP-115 Texas Instruments HX-1000 Vtech Laser PP-40I
Almost all plotters are experiencing cracks in the motor pinion. These can be replaced with more durable brass alternatives, available here:
Unfortunately, most plotters also feature an anti-backlash roller gear prone to cracking, for which no replacement currently exists. These prints can help you bring your old plotter back to life:
- The ‘MCP40 clamp v4’ file includes the Fusion 360 model for a clamp designed to contain the crack in the anti-backlash roller gear hub. However, you’ll need to remove the spring-tensioned counter-gear. It may be possible to adapt the clamp to work with both the gear and counter-gear, but this has not yet been tested.
- If you’re unable to attach the tiny metal clip, the ‘MCP40 clip v3’ file provides a 3D-printable plastic replacement.
- For those with an MCP-40 printer (both Oric and non-Oric models), the internal power supply unit (PSU) may need an upgrade. The ‘MCP40-PSU v4’ file is an adapter designed to mount a modern MeanWell RS-15-5, 5V 3A PSU in the same location as the original.
All parts were printed using a Prusa Mini printer with Prusament PLA at 0.15mm layer height and 100% infill.
