I designed these armrests to be direct replacements for the standard Permobil armrests. I was having trouble with the hard plastic base on the outside of the standard Permobil armrests cracking and leaving sharp edges that would then cut my arms. These are designed to bolt to the metal armrest rail using the same 4 M6 flat head screws that the standard armrest uses. Simply pop off the padded part of the standard armrest then use a 4mm hex driver to remove the 4 screws that hold the plastic part of the armrest to the aluminum armrest rail.
I‘ve included 3 versions.
- First there is a one piece armrest. I haven’t been able to print this one yet as I don’t have a large enough bed on any of my printers to fit it.
- Next, there is a two piece that has a simple straight edge between the two pieces.
- Lastly, there is a two piece with a sort of sawtooth pattern between the two pieces. I found that not only did this look fun with two colors but it also helped to keep the edges of the armrest from bowing up when I braced my arm against them.
I printed these in 95A TPU using the following settings:
- 0.2 Layer Height
- 2 Wall Loops
- 5 Top Layers
- 3 Bottom Layers
- 10% Cubic Infill
These settings produced an armrest that seems forgiving enough to be cushioning but still rigid enough to hold its form well. YMMV
