Descrição
An alternative type of drawers for the HIVE Modular Hex Drawers by O3D. They use a hinged handle that extrudes out of the front as much as the previous handles (6mm).
DO NOT SCALE THE MODELS AS YOU WOULD FOR THE ORIGINAL. THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN SCALED DOWN to 99%!
I had problems with the old handles; if you didn't glue them to the box, they would pop out and sometimes break. Because the handle drops down, the design allows for centering the labels and the option for applying larger adhesive labels.
There are quite a few files that are organized by naming convention:
- Box*
- A drawer
- Box*Gfx*
- A drawer with the window graphic elements, but printed with the same object and material as the main drawer. See the `GraphicStickerTemplates` document for printable labels.
- Box*Labeled*
- The drawer has a label slot. See the `Labels` documents for printable labels.
- Box*Windowed*
- A drawer meant to be printed with a `Window` on multi-filament printers.
- Box*Deep*
- A "deep" style drawer, where the walls come up higher than the normal halfway height.
- Handle
- A drawer handle. Every `Box` model printed will need one of these.
- Stamps
- Artisinal stamps (the bottom logos/branding). Meant for multi-filament printers if you wish to color in the logos.
- Window
- A window model. These are for multi-filament printers, to be printed with a `Box*Windowed*` models. If not a `Labeled` model, it will have the same surface as the `Gfx` version and can use the `GraphicStickerTemplates` labels.
The window stuff was initially meant for a transparent window - but I got to relearn how easy transparency is still an unsolved thing. So, it's kept around as an option for a version that has an additional accent color.
Source
The Blender source files have been included - but I'm not offering support for it except for these notes.
- `ASM_Hive_Drawer` has a Geometry Nodes modifier called `NODES_GFX`, the `ModelingMode` parameter can be changed to switch the front between `Gfx` and `Plain`. See parameter tooltip for more information. Turn off the modifier to print a `Plain` type drawer.
- `ASM_Hive_Drawer` has Boolean modifiers `Sub_Window` and `ADD_DeepWalls` that can be toggled depending on the type of drawer being made.
- If printing a drawer that's both `Plain` and `Labeled`, move `HIVE_Drawer_Label` -0.7 along the Y to un-sink it from where it is for `Gfx` prints.
Note that the Blender file does not have scale applied - anything exported from it should be re-scaled (by 0.99 on all axes).
Printing
Do not scale down these drawers to 99% (as you would the original); the models have been pre-scaled. No supports are needed. Models are already oriented correctly so that the proper face is on the bed. Printing with the stamps is optional and only possible with multi-filament printers.
- The `Window` model should only be printed on multi-filament printers with `Windowed` drawers - and vice versa.
- `Labeled` models have a slot for labels, which can be printed and cut from included documents.
- `Gfx` models have a graphical feature on the front, where stickers can be applied.
- Anything that's both `Labeled` and `Gfx` cannot use the stickers and has the `Gfx` elements for aesthetics.
- Anything that's neither `Labeled` nor `Gfx` will be labeled `Plain`.
Assembly
- Print boxes and apply labels and stickers as desired.
- Add a handle to the drawer, you will need to apply enough force to temporarily bend it a little bit. Insert the handle so the side printed on the bed is facing the drawer. This allows the sloped shape to create space for fingers to reach into.
- Place drawers into a cabinet. CABINETS ARE NOT INCLUDED AND FOUND ELSEWHERE. See `HIVE_Module_V5.stl` from the original as an example.
Documents
There are two documents included, both in `.svg` and `.pdf` form.
- The PDF versions are included for compatibility purposes.
- The SVG version can be edited (in an SVG editor such as Inkscape) to design printed content for the labels.
For (mostly to-scale) SVG graphics to place into the Gfx labels, see Reavenk/OrganizationSystem The McMaster-Carr Catalog is also a good source of hardware images.
- Labels
- Print on paper and cut out, and then slide into the label window for models with the `Box*Labeled*` naming convention.
- GraphicStickerTemplates
- Print on sticker paper and cut out, then stick onto the matching graphical features on either `Window`or models with the `Box*Gfx*` naming convention.
- Not for use with models that are `Labeled` as they contain a label window that blocks the usage of the sticker.
Changes
Original Upload
Modified original stamp and link to be legible when sliced and printed. Added hinge for handle. Added cutout for graphical element. Added drop-pull handle. Added artisan stamp.
12/22/2024
- Added `SVGLabelDocuments.zip`
- The SVG files appear to not show as downloadable files because they're treated as (unrenderable) gallery images. So they've been packaged in a zip.
License
The license is set to match the original thing. All commercialization inquiries should go to O3D.
No inquiry is needed for the usage of the 2D printable documents.
