Various components for rack mounting raspberry Pi's using a Decora rack mount plate. Remix of parts developed by ButlerTheButler (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4167265) plus some new parts. Special thanks to ButlerTheButler for providing native Fusion files!
#General Notes:
-
The decora bases have smaller holes on the front for direct threading the #6-32 screws that typically come with the decora rack plate.
-
Some of the mounting bases are setup for 3.5mm O.D.. heat-set threaded inserts for the M2.5 screws or standoffs used to mount the Pi.
-
I use the inside of an old Toslink fiber cable to bring the status light(s) from the Pi's to the faceplate. I cut sections of the fiber to length and flame polish the cut ends. The fiber clips are not compatible with standoff stacks and generally require leaving 1 corner unsupported. I either drill a small hole in the face plate or use a set of face plates with holes designed in to pass the fiber through. Flame polishing causes the fiber to mushroom which keeps it from backing through the hole.
-
I’ve included .stl and .3mf files for most of the components so you can adjust hole sizes / tweak as desired.

The SSD used for model pictures is based on this one: https://www.printables.com/model/35986-25-hdd-ssd-reference-model the model measures 100.45x70.1x7mm

The Raspberry Pi 3B model is from www.mechatronicsart.com, the Pi 4B model is based on https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4621310, and the Pi 5 model is based on the one from https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/ . I don’t share these.

There are numerous assembly combinations. I’ve only detailed out the ones I’ve tried or modeled to verify compatibility.
This is a work in progress. I’m constantly finding new arrangements.
#Pi3B: > Pi3B General Assembly: >> Decora_Pi_base_w_catch_selftap OR Decora_Pi_base_w_catch_selftap_heatset_inserts >> Decora_Pi_3b_5b_face_plate >> M2.5x6 screws (Qty. 4) >> #6-32 screws (Qty. 2) (probably came with rack decora plate)
> With cooling fan >> Pi3B General assembly parts >> Pi3B_fan_plate (sized for 30mm fan) >> M2.5x10 +6mm standoff (or taller to clear heatink) (Qty. 4)
>With fan and SSD upright orientation (not recommended) >> Pi3B General assembly parts >> Pi3B With cooling fan parts (replace 10mm standoffs with 6mm) >> M2.5x10 +6mm standoff (or taller to clear fan) (Qty. 4)
>> Note: Only works with 10mm or thinner fan
>> Note2: 6mm standoffs will require removal of CPU heatsink.
#Pi4B
>Pi4B General Assembly: >> Decora_Pi_base_w_catch_selftap OR Decora_Pi_base_w_catch_selftap_heatset_inserts >> Decora_Pi_4b_face_plate >> M2.5x6 screws (Qty. 4) >> #6-32 screws (Qty. 2) (probably came with rack decora plate)
>With cooling fan >> Pi4B General assembly parts >> Pi4B_fan_plate_thin_w_LED (sized for 30mm fan) or Pi4B_fan_plate_thin_w_LED_40mmFan >> M2.5x10 +6mm standoff (or taller to clear heatink) (Qty. 4)
>> Note: I have used the 40mmFan plate with a Noctua fan but I had to use M3 screws, not the ones provided with the fan.
> With 30mm cooling fan and SSD – Inverted
>> Pi4B General assembly parts
>> M2.5x6 +6mm standoff (Qty. 4)
>> Pi4_fan_plate_thin_w_LED_invert_mounting (sized for 30mm fan)
>> M2.5x10 +6mm standoff (Qty. 4)
>> Pi_SSD_mount (Qty. 2)
>> M2.5x6 screws (Qty. 4)
>> SSD and M3 screws for securing the SSD
>> Note: inverting the Pi requires an offset to keep the faceplate aligned with the base and rack plate mounting holes. The 6mm standoffs and extra thickness on the fan plate will allow a typical 7mm thick fan to be mounted with a few mm for the fan to breathe and provide the required offset for the faceplate. Using Decora_Pi_base_w_catch_open_selftap_heatset_inserts provides extra fan room but requires heatset inserts.
>> Note2: in inverted layout, the gap between the Pi and the base is 18.6mm
> With 40mm cooling fan and SSD – Inverted
>> Pi4B General assembly parts EXCEPT BASE, use Decora_Pi_base_w_catch_open_selftap_heatset_inserts
>> M2.5x6 +6mm standoff (Qty. 4)
>> Pi4B_fan_plate_thin_w_LED_invert_40mmFan (sized for 40mm fan)
>> M2.5x10 +6mm standoff (Qty. 4)
>> Pi_SSD_mount (Qty. 2)
>> M2.5x6 screws (Qty. 4)
>> SSD and M3 screws for securing the SSD
#Pi5: > Pi5 General Assembly: >> Decora_Pi_base_w_catch_selftap OR Decora_Pi_base_w_catch_selftap_heatset_inserts >> Decora_Pi_3b_5b_face_plate >> M2.5x6 screws (Qty. 4) >> #6-32 screws (Qty. 2) (probably came with rack decora plate)
> With fan >> Omitted. Assumes using the active cooler
> With SSD >> Pi5 General Assembly parts >> M2.5x15 +6mm standoff (Qty. 4) >> Pi_SSD_mount (Qty. 2) >> M2.5x6 screws (Qty. 4) >> SSD and M3 screws for securing the SSD
>With SSD - inverted >> Pi5 General Assembly parts >> M2.5x10 +6mm standoff (Qty. 4)
>>> An M2.5 nut is approx. 1.8mm thick. Use as a jam nut to create a 2.8mm gap between 10mm and 6mm standoffs for a total gap between the Pi and the base of 18.6mm
>> M2.5x6 +6mm standoff (Qty. 4) >> Pi_SSD_mount (Qty. 2) >> M2.5x6 screws (Qty. 4) >> SSD and M3 screws for securing the SSD
