Version 2 of my Ffestiniog bug box.
Version 2 improvements include:
- Details: Vacuum pipes, door and window vents, and a roof vent. Open call has more details included. Holes for door handles. Variations in windows being opened and closed.
- Shortened wheelbase to make it more compatible with tight radius curves.
- Outside lining has been removed from curved walls to allow for sanding of the walls before fitting outside frames.
- Overall dimensions have been reduced to match commercial kit sizes.
- Better wheels have been included.
- Many other small design improvements based on feedback.
Based on the Small Birmingham coaches on the Ffestiniog Railway, also known as "Bug Boxes", this is a 16mm or 7/8" scale model that can run on both 32mm and 45mm gauge.
4 variations are included, the 1st class, 3rd class, observation coach, and the "flying bench".
Details can be printed either in filament or resin.
Also included are DXF files of the walls and roof so they could also be laser cut from 1.75mm acrylic, plasticard, or similar.
Axles can be made from 1/8" brass round stock or similar with a brass tube sheath. I have used 1/16" x 1/4" basswood strips for the bench and floor.
Model can be printed at 7/8" scale with appropriate scale factor (~1.39)
