Intended to be stamped from sheet metal, this scale mail armor is my industrial design project from the year 1337.

7/8/15: Added files for fully articulated mail (LINK and LEAF), and top piece (EDGE).

1/22/16: Uploaded zip file containing IGES and Parasolid X_T formats of all the pieces.

Print on course (.3mm) with 10 shells. Takes about 1/2 an hour to print 12 pieces with no support or raft.

Use a heat gun to soften the arms (medium heat). Make sure you shield the body from the heat gun (or hair dryer), or it will also become soft. I used a strip of wood underneath so the arms dropped as the heat was applied, and another piece on top as a heat shield. 10 seconds is about all it takes.

Once the arms drop 90 degrees, stop heating. It is safe to handle with your fingers to work. bend arms over a steel washer to keep bends wide. Pinch ends close together inside the eye of the washer against the body to make a nice loop.

After the arms are bent and cooled for a few seconds they will be hard. The tip of a razor blade under the loops helps lift them for assembly.

The patch in the pictures took 2 hours to print , and 2 hours to bend and assemble.
