Parametric Cheap Yellow Display Enclosure =================================

This is a customizable enclosure for the 'Cheap Yellow Display' popularised by Brian Lough.

The 'CYD' is an ESP32 and screen packaged together in a very affordable form available from many sellers on Aliexpress. There are a few variants on this idea in different size but this enclosure only fits the 'ESP32-2432S028', the 'original CYD'.

There are a few example STLs included but if you use a Thingiverse account you can customise various features of the enclosure. I would recommend this is how you use this.

The options can be a bit overwhelming so I've broken them into sections.

Enclosure options

Things like the size, mounting holes etc.

  • Include Front Cover - Include the front piece of the enclosure
  • Enclosure X - The 'width' of the enclosure
  • Enclosure Y - The 'height' of the enclosure
  • Enclosure Front Z - The 'thickness' of the front piece of the enclosure, which is the piece the CYD fixes into
  • Include Rear cover - Include the rear piece of the enclosure
  • Enclosure Rear Z - The 'thickness' of the rear cover
  • Corner Style - Square or Rounded
  • Enclosure corner radius - corner radius (if rounded)
  • Bevel front of enclosure - add a bevel
  • Bevel amount - size in mm of the bevel (which increases the enclosure size)
  • Bevel height - 'thickness' in mm of the bevel

Screen options

  • Center on visible area - The CYD screen is not central, ticking this offsets the PCB to make it central in the enclosure. The enclosure will need to be slightly bigger for this to work.
  • Bevel display opening - Add a small bevel to the area around the screen

Mounting screw options

  • Front mounting screws - include front mounting screws
  • Mounting screw diameter - This should include clearance so they are easy to pass through the case
  • Countersink mounting screw - Cut out space in the enclosure to make the mounting screw heads flush
  • Mounting screw head base diameter - The diameter of the head near the thread
  • Mounting screw head top diameter - The diameter of the screw head at the 'top'
  • Mounting screw head Z - The 'height' of the screw head
  • Mounting screw offset - how far in from the corners the mounting screws are

CYD options

Which ports of the CYD are exposed internally or externally. Internal means the cable can be plugged in and routed back behind the CYD inside the enclosure. External means it pokes out of the side of the enclosure.

  • Ldr pin hole - Place a hole in the front over the LDR
  • Usb Cutout - Place a hole for the USB cable
  • Sd card cutout - Place a hole for the SD card
  • Cn1 cutout - Place a hole for CN1
  • P1 cutout - Place a hole for P1
  • P3 cutout - Place a hole for P3
