Modelo 3D SkipDr™ replacement wheel por wilsonmd4 no Thingiverse

Descrição

This is a way to create your own custom Flexiwheels for SkipDr optical disk repair devices. The wheels are increasingly hard to find so I tried making my own. I also wanted to make my own wheels to not be limited to the single grit on the Flexiwheels. If you have really bad, deep scratches, you can try starting with courser grits like 6000 or 8000. This will let you remove more material quickly (but you also risk scratching the disk worse so be careful). Then move on to 10000 or even 15000 to finish. I would make a wheel for each grit.

Be sure to print this out of TPU so it is flexible enough to not damage your disks.

What you'll need:

  • One of these wheels printed with TPU
  • Very fine (10000 grit or finer) sandpaper that's OK for wet sanding
  • Double-sided 3M adhesive (stronger the better)
  • A ruler or straight edge
  • A sharp cutting instrument like an X-acto

Here's are the general steps I took to make these:

  • Cut a length of 3M tape long enough to go around the outside edge of the wheel. Place it face up (adhesive exposed) on a surface you can cut on.
  • Affix the back side of the sandpaper to the tape and press it firmly along its length so it adheres well.
  • Flip the sandpaper and tape over so you now have the backside of the tape with the backing paper facing up.
  • Use the straight edge and knife to cut a strip of the tape and sandpaper matching the width of the wheel (it should be just over 6mm). You should be able to get 2 or 3 such strips, depending on the width of the 3M tape you used.
  • Peel the backing paper off the tape, then carefully stick it around the outside edge of the wheel.

You should be ready to use it in your SkipDr. These worked pretty decently for me but mine were definitely not as good as the original Flexiwheels. Here's a few notes and things to keep in mind:

  • A standard sheet of sandpaper isn't long enough to go around the circumference of the wheel. You will probably have to put a couple pieces down the length of the 3M tape to cover it all (see picture). I recommend overlapping the pieces by about an inch instead of placing them end-to-end (see closeup picture). The paper will separate less easily when in use. Use some flexible glue like contact adhesive or fabric glue to glue down the overlap.
  • Pay attention to the direction the wheel will turn in your SkipDr. The sandpaper overlap above should be oriented such that the outer part of the overlap is facing upwards/away from the disk as you rotate it.
  • I recommend leaving an inch of sandpaper hanging off one end of the 3M tap so you can create a similar overlap for where the tape ends will join together. Use the same overlap direction and glue technique as above.
