I really love the camera sliders that are built with extruded aluminum. Most of the ones I've seen are part of larger, more complicated designs, meant to be belt driven or requiring special hardware.

Having leftover aluminum pieces from a build, I designed this simple bracket to mount the piece to a surface.

This is not for steady video dolly-style effects. This is really just to be able to change one axis for a still camera.

Mine is 1" length, but up to you. 2 x 1/4"-20 Nuts 2 x 4-40 machine screws (feel free to use your M3 hardware) 2 x 4-40 nuts Optional quick-release camera mount (Mine was $12-15 at NYC camera shop) ================

Push the brackets into the channels of each end of the aluminum. Mount to desired surface with 4-40 hardware.

Force fit nuts into each knob. Put both knobs onto bolt.

Thread bolt with knobs into camera (if you're using quick release, it should thread into that). Tighten knob against the camera/quick-release, to keep it snug.

Slide your camera assembly (camera/quickrelease/bolt&knobs) intro track to desired position. *Note: Second knob needs to be spaced far enough away from bolt head to fit into aluminum track.

Once you get it to the desired place, tighten the bottom knob against the aluminum.

Viola! Super simple sliding camera mount.

Note: If you need to cut your piece of extruded aluminum to size (I used 80/20's 1010 model, which is 1" x 1" cross-section). I have a metal blade for my chop saw. You can use a hacksaw, or a dremel/grinder with a carbide disc.
