Here is a 1/4" wingnut driver that uses 3/8" socket drive. It holds the wingnuts nicely so you can manipulate the drill without the nut falling out.

I had a job that required me to assemble a few hundred 5/16" wingnuts and made a driver for them. It worked very well and was liked here so I made this 1/4" version. You can find my 5/16" version here:
