This is a model of the Garmin G1000 GRS AHRS MEMS Accelerometer and rate sensor.

The unit is designed to provide data for the avionics to calculate the attitude indicator. It does this by sensing accelerations in two directions, and can figure out where it was and where it moved to. Inside the GRS, or any attitude detecting device, there are three of these setup in a triad configuration to detect the accelerations in all possible directions, and triangulate a force vector from them in 3D space
