A parameterised Ring light for use when you need to photograph something without shadows, or just need a light you can 'see through' when working with small things. (My primary use). It is adjustable to just about any height (using multiple tubes and clamps) and direction. the Housing and the cover just clip together. You can also remove the led holders and use a led strip or rope rathe than individual LEDs. ** Tube Diameter = Bracket height**
I used 10 LED's that can be angled inwards to 'focus the light and it runs just fine off a phone charger, the USB port on my laptop does not provide enough power and the light is slightly dimmed.
- The key dimension is the bracket height as this determines the tube diameter as well as the clamp recess and base pillar. If you want a larger pillar on the base, just use the the included adapter. (see photo)
- Use the strain relief to make sure the cable is not pulled out of the housing or damages the circuit
- The LED Offset angle is to move the LEDS away from the cable inlet to ease construction.
- To power this, I just cut off the end of a 2m USB charging cable, split it and identified + & -
- Each part can be selected from a menu and rendered separately.
- Use an M4 nut and screw to secure the Clamps
- If you want to use a led strip or rope, set 'Remove_led_holder' to Yes
update
- You can now adjust the thickness of the 'lens' part of the cover rather than having it default to the wall thickness. This sides remain at Wall thickness!
- It is now easier to create an adapter for the base & tubes if you need/want.
- this adapter is only really needed if the upright on the base is a different diameter to the tubes
I used https://ledcalculator.net/ to do the calculations for the LEDs and create an example circuit. (remember us use 5v rather than 3v!) all other led information is available from wherever you source you LEDs
