A friend died and his sister requested a Moai Urn for the ashes. The added complication is it needed to be big enough for him, his father and his mother (still living). I did a remix of the high quality, hollow moai to get the necessary smooth detail. To make it big enough I needed to print in parts. The formula for capacity is 1 cu cm per pound body weight.
This needed to be done quickly, and print times were exceptional at 79 hours for the bottom and 50+ hours for the top. I chose to use supports because I didn't have time for a reprint if things went south.
If I do a re-design these are the things I need to fix:
- Position the top knot (hat) more upright
- My tiny brain put reverse threads in, so I'd get them the right way next. Or, maybe not. With reverse threads there's maybe less chance for someone opening.
- Make the bottom shaft of the top knot (hat) a separate assembly to minimize support.
- Make the fill plugs, on the bottom of the Moai, smoother...they are a fraction of a mm indented.
