A tensegrity structure is an artistic sculpture that is held up by string/wire. the wires are constantly in tension, and the bars are constantly in compression. This balance causes the structure to stay upright, giving the illusion of it defying gravity. It is most effective when the supports are made of transparent fishing line, as this is hard to see, making it look as if the two parts are not connected.
