  • INTRODUCION

A couple years ago a friend of mine asked me to print him a custom grinder. Since everything you can find here on thingiverse works poorly i had to design my own version from scratch.

The first iteration of this product required a lot of support material to print and was therefore not so "funny" to print...I hate support material!

This second iteration aims at solving that issue. Thre is now need for support material!!!

  • HOW THIS GRINDER WORKS

There are two things you need form a 3D printed grinder: it needs to grind and it needs to be strong.

My toothless grinder is capable of grinding just by friction, using very small teeh that are therefore subjected to very low flexural forces. This way it is pracrically impossible to break it. The bottom grinding surface has some 5mm holes to allow the grinded material to fall in the next compartment. Here there is a metallic mesh (optional) that separates some of the pollen, just like in those high quality grinders you can buy. The pollen then falls in the bottom cap were it is stored.

  • INSTRUCTIONS

Every body is numbere in order form the top to the bottom, with an excepion for the bottom grinding surface (Body6) and the ring needed to install the metallic mesh (Body7).

You just need to print every body from Body1 to Body6 and install them following the naming order.

MESH To install the mesh I suggest to place a metallic mesh on the build plate and then printing Body7 directly on top of it. This way the plastic fuses with the mesh and it becomes a solid component. Otherwise you could just glue the mesh in place. Some additional information is found on the v1 page: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3565762

Body8 is just a tool i made to install the bottom grinding disk. It is NOT needed, I just used a pair of plyers to mount it. Still if you want you can print it and make your life easier.

MAGNETS (optional) To keep every piece together you'll need 6 magnets. 4 are used to secure the cap and 2 to secure the top piece to the rest of the grinder (as you would see in a store bougth grinder). This components were designed to mount some generic 3x2mm magnets (3mm in diameter and 2mm in height). You'll probably need to slightly enlarge the holes after your print so if you don't have a drill bit you can buy some smaller magnets and use them instead.

Note that all the threads are M56x1.0 so they are really fine. I would suggest you to use a small xy compensation factor from -0.1mm to -0.05mm, just to have a smoother experiance.

Hope you like it! If you do please consider buying this model on https://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/1673807 It's just 3 bucks for what I think is the best grinder you could print. Thants!!!

  • Jan/06/2021 Update: uploaded the v2.1 version that officially does NOT require ANY SUPPORTS. Loaded a picuture thas shows how i install the mesh. Renamed the files in a more logical way.
