The tale so far...
A band of adventurers arrive at the entrance to the long abandoned dwarvern fortress. They had come for honour, fame and maybe a little bit of treasure. They stood outside and drew lots to see who would be first inside. The fighter drew the short straw, and began looking at his fellow adventurers nervously. The barbarian gave him a reassuring look and said..."Yea, the dragons definitely dead"
D&D inspired bookends
After my d&d book collection fell over for the 100th time I decided it was time to print some bookends. I wanted a set that could tell a story and did something clever with the books in the middle, a d&d version of the classic portal or stargate bookends I've seen. I found that Thingiverse didn't have any which matched what I wanted so I decided to create my own. I wanted it to look good regardless of how far apart the books are so I decided to create a tunnel entrance and have it be the entrance to a lair. It being D&D I decided to make the creature a titular dragon and set it in a cool abandoned dwarven fortress. Fire breath cone weapon range be damned!Printing
- The regular files are tiny (for some reason) and have to be scaled up to ~1000% - The interior has grooves for where the pieces should fit. It's likely that these grooves will have to be filed down and sanded as I had to with mine. - How the objects are assembled should be self explanatory, with the exterior as one piece called "exterior" and the miniatures to be on that side and the rest to be assembled on the Interior within the grooves.Digital kitbashing
I didn't want to spend ages modelling every part so I took many different models and combined them to create these bookends. I've heard people call this digital kitbashing in reference to physical kitbashing (taking parts of kits and using them as part of new). As a result of my hacking together models and files in ways they shouldn't, some of the files are a bit janky. The individual files however are great quality and all the ones I used are listed belowModels used Inside side Dragon by The DM Workshop: https://www.shapeways.com/product/CJDU8G36M/ancient-red-dragon - *I highly recommend all of the models from The DM Workshop Interior Statues by Curufin: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2613310 Floor by ragingowlbear: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2521474 Wall by devonjones: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2936588 Treasure by dutchmogul: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2010492
