My attempt at creating a trigger guard for the Valve Index Controller after seeing all those horrifyingly cracked triggers and popped controller covers on r/ValveIndex. Hopefully this can help to prevent some controller damage caused by punching walls or slamming into tables?
Some notes:
-
At 100% scale, it's a really tight fit, so you'll need to hold down the trigger and try to stretch/flex the guard onto the controller. You could try printing it at >100% scale, which might make it easier. Let me know.
-
I've noticed the trigger guard is thin enough that it could potentially get caught under the opposite controller's thumbstick when swinging the controller around. (The snaggable thumbstick is another problem the Valve Index Controllers have, which I hope can be fixed with 3D printing.) I haven't yanked out a thumbstick yet, but I'm certainly paranoid about it.
-
There may be sensor occlusion from certain angles.
-
The controller area that your index finger's proximal philange touches will be thicker than usual, so it might make the controller less comfortable for you.
-
The photos are of a slightly older version of the model. The version available for download does not have the fragile piece that extends around the A and B buttons.
-
As the photos show, the trigger guard is compatible with the Index controller grip booster.
-
It's my first time using Fusion 360, so there's a few errors/oddities in the model, but they don't seem to be evident on the printed item.
