A set of printable parts for 2x4 based deck railings. Plug-based parts work with .75" round aluminum balusters:

• 2x4 Bracket - Horizontal: for horizontal placement of deck railings
• 2x4 Bracket - Horizontal Angle: for placement of 2x4's that have a 30-60 degree miter. 1 for each side (left and right)
• 2x4 Bracket - Stair: for affixing stair railings.
• Flat plug: plug for affixing horizontal railing balusters.
• Beveled plug: plug mount for fixing stair railing balusters.
• Surface mount plug two screws: Alternative (surface) mounting for balusters. Heavier duty. Supports - build plate only.
• Surface mount plug: simpler surface mounting. Supports - build plate only.
• Surface mount screw plug: plug to hide screw for above surface mount.

Preparation: Dimensional lumber is not standard, and can vary widely, especially by width of the cross-section. It is strongly recommended that you print up a set of trial pieces to make sure your lumber fits; if it doesn't, scale up the width in your slicer. 2x4 should fit in the bracket snugly, but not overly tight.

Printing: ASA or ABS are highly recommended for outdoor use. .3mm layers work well for strength. Recommend 5 top/bottom layers, 5 shells, 20-40% infill.

Installation: 2 screw holes on the flat plane of the bracket pieces gets screwed into the end of the 2x4. Recommend 2" stainless screws. With bracket in place, position on post, hold in place, and use 2.5" stainless or epoxy coated screws to affix. Be sure that the fit is good - tightening the screws shouldn't distort the bracket.
