This is a MouseMover. It is designed to periodically move your mouse to keep your computer from going to sleep. There are numerous alternatives but none of the ones I found met my needs. I needed something that was completely stand alone from the target machine. That meant no software to be installed or run and nothing could be plugged into the USB.
This uses a 28BYJ 48 stepper and driver. These are easily found on Amazon, ebay and various other places for just a couple of dollars.
I used an Arduino Pro Mini (5 volt version) that I had laying around but others would work as well.
I'm powering my unit from a USB power adapter/charger but any 5VDC power supply that can source 250mA should work.
Two M4 x 5mm screws are needed to mount the stepper Four M4 x 12mm (or longer) are needed to assemble the pieces of the box together.
I opted not to design in board mounts for the circuit boards. I used a couple of pieces of heavy duty double sided tape to stick them to the underside of the box.
I included the Arduino sketch that I am using. You can easily change delays and how far the rotation is for each move.
Assembly
- Mount the motor in the Base
- Press the rotary table onto the motor shaft. It is keyed to fit the flats on the motor shaft. Make sure the rotary table is fully seated on the motor
- The spacer goes between the base and Top Cradle
- Put the top cradle on and use the four M4 x 12mm screws to hold everything together.
- Wire everything up according to the wiring diagram
- Plug it in and have fun.
