Kalam is a writing tool intended to focus on children with motor difficulties to draw and write independently. Raman(name changed) , a 10 year old child in a Cerebral Palsy Care Center, is one of the few among the children in the society who has better cognitive abilities with a chance of getting formal education.

Yet, his motor skills deficiency makes writing difficult without the support of his neck. But, with the aid of Kalam writing tool, Raman writes more easily, his hands do not need the support of his neck. For individual cases like that of Raman, Kalam writing tool could play a potential role in changing the trajectory of his future education.

The main goal of the project is to have a functional grip that takes into account the motor difficulties of a child that enables users to write and draw independently. Compared to the handles on the market Kalam works on the dorsal part of the hand, discouraging the contraction of the limb and making the drawing/writing activity effective in the school and home environment.

Kalam is inspired by Glifo Writing Tool. The main difference is that Kalam is able to be adjustable both vertically and horizontally helping to increase the scope of usability.

Please note that the cover of this design should be printed with TPU material with 10 to 15 % infill while other parts should be printed with PLA material.
