Descrição

Tri-linder Colston DiBlasi 10/7/19 George Mason University Math 401 Mathematics Through 3D Printing

I made this ambiguous shape in Mathematica. How I made it was, I made a formula for the top half of a circle and the bottom half of a circle. Then, I made my triangle with the top being an absolute value function and the bottom being a straight flat line going through the origin. From there I took the top half of the circle equation and I took the difference of the absolute value function. I did the same thing fro the bottom half of the circle and the flat line. This gave me one equation for the entire shape. Finally, I multiplied the function by u to give it height that way it could stand on its own.

I successfully printed this on the Makerbot Replicator (5th generation) with red ABS plastic. I used a 20% fill, which gave me a print time of 1 hour and 24 minutes. I printed this part with a raft underneath to ensure I would get an even base layer. I then waited about 5 minutes in order to give my print come time to cool. Then after removing the print I gently broke off the raft, giving me just the Tri-linder.
