This tool is specifically designed to assist in placing the magnets in HexPlayerPods. The tool contains 3 magnetic sides, marked Top, Bottom and Side. The polarity of each hole is also marked.
When gluing the magnets into the tool itself, it is critical that you get the polarity of each magnet correct. There are many ways to determine the polarity of a magnet but with tiny little disc magnets like this it can be quite difficult. One simple way is to join the magnets into a small chain (say 10-15 magnets) and then spin them lightly on a very shiny surface. The magnets will usually finish spinning with their final alignment in a north-south direction. Do this a number of times, perhaps using a felt-tip pen to mark the north end of the chain to confirm it is the same on future spins.
Once you've established which side of the magnet is which, glue the magnet into the appropriate hole in the tool. If the hole is designated as a North hole, glue the magnet so that the North face of the magnet is the side facing INSIDE the tool. This will leave the South end exposed from the tool and will ensure that the North face is the exposed face for magnets mounted on the Top and for the left magnet in the side pairings of the HexPlayerPods. Similarly, the holes market South on the tool should have the magnets mounted with the South side INSIDE the tool.
When using the tool to mount the magnets on the HexPlayerPods, I recommend placing a small piece of paper between the the tool and the magnet you are mounting. This will ensure that you can easily slide the tool away from the freshly mounted magnets and will prevent superglue from sticking the two magnets together.
