To be printed in "vase mode" (spiralized outer contour mode in CURA) !! Originally it was designed for nerf darts :)
EDIT
- [2020/03/15] Added a new version with different slot sizes
This is a cool thing that came off while I was experimenting on fast but robust prints using vase mode (spiralized outer contour in Cura). Basically it is a hive shaped container (37 elements) that must be printed in vase mode.
It uses some design tricks for the base sketch to achieve robustness, short printing time and low filament usage:
- every single circular element is perfectly tangent to each other neighbour in one point
- every element is connected with one and only one of the adjacent elements with a little portion of area added between circles
- The connections between base circles will result in the extruded and spiralized print as "cuts"
- That trick allow to print the all structure in vase mode
- I used a concentric three like pattern for the "cuts" to achieve robustness after trying other different patterns (spiral, snowflake, parallel scan and arrowscan). Write me if you're interested. Examples images are attached.
- The target was that the all the connections points between circles were melted together as a secondary effect due to their proximity
Increase bottom shell width and extrusion width to add robustness.
Robustness with speed :)
It's perfect for pens but also for Nerf darts ;-)
The idea is simple but can be used many other applications I guess, credit me if you create something :)
Print it and share your results. It's easy! Click "post a make" or download 3D Geeks: for 3D Printing APP and take a pic! I'll be happy to know that my design was helpful to someone.
