The DualSpec is a spectrophotometer. Coupled with a smartphone, the DualSpec can measure the concentration of a substance that absorbs visible light. It is designed for DIY science projects and university / high school chemistry laboratory teaching.

The DualSpec is a significant upgrade to the original SpecPhone (thing:1421228) with two main improvements. (1) It has two optical paths so that a sample and reference solution can be measured simultaneously. This allows for cleaner spectra and higher quantitative accuracy. (2) It has a universal smartphone dock, making it possible to attach any Android or Apple device to the base.
