A 3D printed FPV capable 4WD skid-steer Rock Hopper
NB. Edited 3rd Oct 2018 to offer a strengthened (filleted) "alternative diff link".
The enclosed files contain all the individual parts to build the Rock Hopper in a variety of configurations according to individual preferences and available equipment. The version I chose to create is the one in the video which sports an optional WG2 (a FeiyuTech Wearable Gimbal) mount, print-in-place head and tail lights and print-in-place L9R receiver and 5.8GHz masts. If you don't have these components your best bet is probably to start with the "Plain" Body/Lid combination and go from there.
Many of the Body/Lid/accessories can be printed "in place" using multi-colour or even multi-materials in which case all the files that start with ""Body..." can be merged into a single printable component and likewise all the files that start with "Lid..." can me merged with the "Lid for masts" or "lid for no masts" file and whatever components you like to taylor the design to your specific needs.
Note that although the list of files might look a bit daunting there are many duplicate parts included designed to be either printed seperately or printed-in-place which makes the project look quite a bit more complicated than it really is. There are only really 3 options...
- A plain body/lid to which you attach seperate lights/masts/whatever however you see fit.
- A print in place Body/Lid with no provision for a receiver mast or vidoe transmitter mast.
- A print in place Body/Lid designed specifically for those masts.
A bill of materials and an overview video showinghow all the parts are situated and explaining their function will shortly be uploaded which should help you decide what version best fits your needs.
The motors are 12v 37mm diameter 120rpm gear motors similar to these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163765968928?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT They're widely available on amazon and ebay for about £11 ($15 each). Mine are wired up with one esc per side (two wheels) but if you want the best traction one ESC per wheel would give much better results.
