With the World Cup now underway I wanted a Russian themed football sculpture to hang over the desk. What better than a football styled Sputnik! The base model of Sputnik on a Stand by ottaross was scaled up around 400% to fit a Size 5 football, that's around 8.25". At this size it is about 1/3 scale and the antenna are 80cm long cut from 6mm wood dowel and sprayed silver. This keeps the cost down and from a distance look fine. I cut out the antenna base mounts and then scooped them to fit the ball.Printed with supports the rough underneath surface then provided a good key to glue them to the ball at 90 degree seperation, just like the original.

The antenna bases are sprayed grey and screw heads picked out with a molotow chrome pen. To get coverage on the ball it was first sprayed matt black before some silver car paint was laid on. The booster seperation flange forms a hanging point and another hook is used for the top. This allows it to hang flat otherwise the antenna drag the rear down.

Modern office ceilings are normally steel with ceiling tiles, so a 10mmx5mm magnet at the middle and rear is enough to hold it up and I've made a magnet cover for this. Everything was glued together with superglue and cyno accelerator spray to speed things up.
