I'm building a wool picker following the plans in "The Handspinner's Guide to Selling" by Paula Simmons (2nd ed). These plans require cutting and reshaping ~200 20d bright nails. As part of this, they need to be cut to approximately 2" long from their original 4" (the directions are a little muddled as to if they want 1 3/4" or 2 1/4", but I found 2" to be a good compromise). They suggest chucking each nail into a drill press and then using a hacksaw to cut to length before filing a new point, but I found this to be too tedious. Instead, I printed this to provide a guide that I could use my bolt cutters on to get a precise repeat cut. Simply put the nail with the head at the small end, then place the large end flat on the face of the bolt cutters and I got a length that made for easy repeat grinding to the same length.
