The goal was to design affordable, easy to make goals for a Subbuteo club in Portland, Oregon. Subbuteo is a table top soccer game that isn't distributed in the USA. The basic set comes with flimsy, soft plastic goals. Aftermarket "Pro" goals are made out of metal and cost anywhere from € 40 - € 40, and have to be imported from the UK or Italy. This version is very stable, and can be used in the traditional way with fingers holding the edge down, or affixed to a table with bolts through the holes provided. If you have a 3D printer you can make a set for under $5, plus the cost of filament.
This design has gone through several iterations. I've rounded the caps on the ends of the crossbars, added a hole near the middle of the side goalposts on the bottom, as well as an option with printed side netting. I'll post a link to a more "final" design when I think it's more or less done. So far, field testing has been extremely positive on these.
