I just recently got 4 different filament samples and went right into printing with them. The issue I ran into is that with just the loose filament coil it would sometime get shuffled around when loading filament and that created a chance for it to bind up and cause issues feeding. I decided to design up my own filament spool that would fit on the filament spool holder (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2006457) on the monoprice select mini printer and i wanted the spool be be able to be printed on the small 120mm X 120mm bed of the mini. I made 2 halves that should fit together and be secured with a little glue. It does not take alot of material to make this. The filament gets wrapped around the outside of all 6 of the spool center spacers and i put holes in each one to allow the user to secure the starting end of the filament on the spool when first starting to wind it onto the spool.
