The Cosmo Wenman scan of the Ancient greek statue was so fantastic that I wanted to make a high quality print, but I was afraid of the mess all the support material needed for the wings would make.
After stumbling across a great tutorial on using MeshMixer to create integrated pillar supports (http://www.extrudable.me/2013/12/28/meshmixer-2-0-best-newcomer-in-a-supporting-role/), I decided to try it on this and it turned out GREAT!
I was so happy with the result I decided to share it on Thingiverse. Hopefully it will allow others to print this fantastic model without all the hassle of cleaning off support material.
Model has been scaled to fit the maximum print height of my modified solidoodle 3 (173mm). Cleanup after printing only took a few minutes! Unheard of for a print with this much of an overhang!
Thanks to Cosmo for the great scan and I look forward to more of your models!
Instruções
Print it without ANY supports turned on in your slicer. The example pictured here was printed at 0.2mm layer thickness in white ABS on a solidoodle 3 printer.
I do recommend printing with a decent size brim (10mm pictured here) to make sure the support beams are secure on the bed.
