A brooch I made for my wife, modeled after a pendant she has but never wears.

I figured "she never wears necklaces, but she does wear brooches, so let me make one that will work as a brooch!"

I modeled this brooch in Blender, and after 3D printing, painting, and attaching a pinback, I gave it to her.

She liked the effort but then explained that she didn't wear the pendant because she just bought it for the chain it came with, not the actual pendant.

Oh well.

I showed it to a guy a work and he said "it looks like it's from the movie Metropolis", thus my naming of the item.

The original pendant wasn't quite so Art Deco-ish/Machine Age-ish; I made it more-so be keeping it a bit simpler and adding a stair-step to the bars.

Using my Form 1, I printed the main brooch on it's own, then all "gems" (1 large gem, 4 small gems) as close as I could to get PreForm to put them all on a single base. I printed each at an 30-degree (or so) angle. This allowed me to easily spray each item with Krylon for Plastic White Matte Primer.

I left the gems on the supports and painted with 4-5 coats of Testor brand enamel paint, letting each dry completely.

The main part I painted with 2-coats of a silver paint I had.

I then used model glue to attach the gems to the main part, as well as the pinback to the backside.

As an afterthought, I should have wiped a layer of thinned black paint on the silver part to make it appear more "aged".
