A test mini-shelf for tiny, awkwardly shaped trinkets.

Inspired by the wonderfully sci-fi and organic looking Voronoi diagrams, this test shelf layout was generated from Hero-Design's Voronoi Bookshelf Generator, and then hand-converted into 3d printable connectors.

You will need -

1. 9 x printed connectors, each unique. (Print with raft)
2. 8 x broad wooden lollipop sticks.
3. Hot glue.
4. Means of cutting lollipop sticks (I used a rotary tool).

Steps Print the connectors with raft and BEFORE YOU TAKE THEM OFF THE RAFT, label them with the numbers from the map diagram. You will be unable to tell them apart unless you do this now.

Ensure that the sockets on the connectors are free from strings, sagging filament, or other imperfections. Take a knife to them now, as it will be very difficult to trim these when they're half glued. (Trust me.)

NOTE - The connectors will need centering on the print-bed. I tidied up the files for uploading, and forgot to re-center them.

Cut the lollipop sticks to the following lengths:

• 14cm,
• 13.8cm,
• 10.2cm,
• 9.4cm,
• 8.8cm,
• 8.3cm,
• 5.8cm,
• 4.2cm.

I recommend not gluing the 'through hole' pieces (numbers 6, 8 and 9) and leaving them free to 'slide' to reduce stress on the model when assembling. Ideally, they will grasp on to the lollipop sticks quite firmly, and they won't be flopping around the place.

Further Investigations:

If you were to scale these pieces taller, you could use multiple lollipop sticks (or cut balsa-wood) to make actual functionally deep shelves.

Of course, the dream is to design and print the connectors for a much bigger bookshelf - this was the small-scale test for feasibility.
