The Walking Gear Bot, through the clever use of planetary gearing, converts simple rotation to a walking motion. It uses a single 6V electric motor equipped with a speed reducer. This motor can be bought on eBay for less than $5. You will also need 4 AA batteries, a couple of jumper cables or wires, and a paperclip. No soldering required. See the video to watch this robot walk.
