A butt hinge is easier to design, harder to break, and thicker than you really want it to be. The solution is the standard hinge, which can be made with a different (smaller) gauge than the knuckle diameter. The thin gauge also requires a little bit more slop due to greater clearance between the knuckles. The hinge needs more clearance so that it's easier to break the support material the first time you work it. Otherwise, you will break a leaf rather than free up the hinge.
Just the same as the butt hinge that this design is based on, the standard hinge is made entirely of plastic. It will be fine for things like a box top and a top-opening or maybe even side-opening cabinet door. If you use it to hang a heavy door or as the hinge on a bottom-opening cabinet door (the way an oven door works) then one day you're going to tear the hinge to ribbons.
This hinge takes countersunk #4 wood screws.
To customize this hinge successfully, review hinge terminology.
