Hello For a while I've been dreaming of automating my window blinds. And now I have(at least version 1). This design uses a 28BYJ-48 stepper motor. Its slow. But hey 20 secs for full motion isn't going to hurt anyone. Plus the motor is completely silent(for me). Only the occasional scratch from the plastic blinds shifting.
This designed from the metal version of the blinds. However, a friend of mine has the plastic kind and this almost fits it(probably would), Just need to change a few parameters. Also You'll most likely have to design your own adapter between the stepper and the blinds as Its seemingly different between every bind.
The stabilizer is to reduce the torque on the mounts. In the pics I'm using one and the 1mm test print at the top cause I can. I'd recommend using 2 but you can get away with just one.
My set up is using OpenHAB. I'm currently just communicating via serial commands. later I'll expand it to use MySensors along with the rest of my setup. At the moment, the window is right next to the Raspbery Pi hosting OpenHAB so its less work keeping it serial controlled for now.
Here is a short vid. https://youtu.be/16KzyZw8res
I hope this helps some people who are interested in this kind of project. Also I'm open for some constructive criticism or design hints as I'm basically self teaching myself how to cad.
The screws used were 3mm screw & nut w/washer.
###Files: Inventor16_WindowStepperMountFiles.zip contains my Inventor part files. StepFiles_WindowStepperMountfiles.zip contains step file exports that may help non-inventor users. Arduino_stepper_Window.zip contains the base code I'm using. Made with Arduino 1.6.7. I made the code in a modular fashion so it's easy to build off of and expand if need be.
