Clean drinking water is a problem in many regions. The purpose of this device is to float on the surface of the water and collect the evaporated water, which would then be suitable for human consumption. The top cone section absorbs heat from the sun (that's why I printed it in black), and transfers this heat to the air captured between the structure and the water, as well as directly to the water itself. This heat encourages evaporation, which then will condense on the outer walls with the cooling fins, and then collect in the reservoir. Ideally there would also be some sort of convenient way to pour the collected water out, but I haven't settled on a great idea.
Additionally, the top of the water catcher can currently be used as a small cup, or to collect a limited amount of rain water.

Scale down to a size that will fit on your printer! This thing is designed to print standing straight up. Careful removing from the platform, because it is not the strongest structure ever, and the middle cone could disconnect from the outer ring.
I printed with ABS, which is what I had on hand. I drew my inspiration from thing #119674, which is a conical vapor collector, and the creator points out that ABS is not the best for working with something we will drink, so PLA would be better.
