Model origen:
I designed this model to replace a broken injection molded faucet knob at a bar. As regular replacement knobs aren't available and replacing the entire faucet cost between one- and twohundred euros. So I decided to go the more sustainable route and design my own taking measurements to closely match the origional. You can put it on by heatpressing it on the knurling.
Aplication:
To put your printed knob on the faucet you should heat the faucet knurling with a fire. A lighter works tho you will need to heat it for quite a couple of minutes before it's hot enough. So I suggest using a ‘jet lighter’ or ‘creme brule burner’ and going at it for about a minute and then quickly pressing the knob on. after that you should let it cool for at least an hour before using it to ensure the plastic is hard enough.
Material:
I suggest using a material sush as ASA(-CF) or PETG-CF. As you need a material that has both stiffnes and durability. The strengt for not deforming when the small knurling bites into it for friction. And durability for longevity.
petg is to soft and won't bite onto the knurling. So if you can't print the materials stated above PLA is your best bet, as it has even beter stiffnes at those materials. Though it wil need replecement after a few months given it won't stand up to the intensive usage. (speaking from personal exprience)
Print instructions:
- 5 perimiters for torsion strenght
- 35 infil
- 0.2 - 0.28 layer height
