Modelo 3D Extremely efficient wine rack por Chris no Printables

Descrição

I was disappointed with commercially available wine racks and with the other wine racks on Printables.  I don't know if this is the most efficient wine rack - but I do know that it is extremely efficient.  It is ideal stacking of circles 3.84" in diameter and holds bottles just over 3.5" in diameter.  At its theoretical limit - if it was infinitely large - you would need only 2 plastic pieces and 3 plywood pieces for every 3 bottles of wine.  Everything in the design does double duty.  It's not quite perfectly efficient in practice because you need edge pieces to finish off the rack.

When it's built - it is attractive and confusing to the eye because many of the places for a bottle don't have a plastic part, they are at the edges of three other plastic parts.  The plastic pieces don't support the bottles.  The plastic pieces define the location of the plywood slats and the plywood slats support the bottles.  It's surprising how little material there is and how strong the finished rack is.  I'm unaccountably proud of it and I hope you like it.  It is extremely strong when built - thanks to the geometry.  Mine is 6 bottles tall and you could probably stand on it if the weight was distributed.

It is designed for 6mm thick plywood slats that are theoretically just over 2.5" wide.  In practice, they should be a bit narrower than 2.5".  If they are wider than 2.5" the geometry doesn't work.  I used 2.49 or so.  The geometry will account for slightly narrow planks - but it can't correct for planks that are too wide.  The geometry also forces the finished rack to be extremely square.

The plywood should be about 12" long.  The length isn't critical (down to 8" would probably work) - but all slats must be the same length.    I used this 12"x24"x6mm plywood here, ripped to width on a table saw - which worked perfectly.  You get 9 slats per board with very little waste with a narrow table saw blade.  Yes - it's more expensive than breaking down your own 4'x8' sheet goods, but it was MUCH easier to work with these small pieces.  Even with this expensive plywood - it's much less expensive per bottle than commercial wine racks.

The plywood should be snug in the slots.  You will want to print a test piece and play with your settings before getting into production.  You could also super glue it in the slots if it's a little too loose - but my build has no glue whatsoever and is very strong.

You'll need to develop some technique to putting it together.  If you are patient and put into practice everything you learned in those anger management classes you should be fine.  Try building the back first with all the slats installed and then put the front pieces on.  Getting all of the slats to simultaneously slide into the front piece as you push it down is tricky - be patient!  Don't force it or you will damage the edges of the plywood and they won't fit in the slots.

You'll need to plan your own layout based upon your space.  I've attached pictures of the one I made.  It is just over 23.5 inches tall and just under 45 inches wide.  It holds 72 bottles, which is 6 cases and remarkable for that amount of space.  The rack will accommodate bottles up to just over 3.5" - so everything but the most pretentious champagne bottles will fit.  Photo of pretentious champagne bottle not fitting attached for reference.

I've included a drawing of my layout so you can see how the pieces work together based on the number of “points” the plastic parts have for plywood slats.  Use the pieces with less than 6 “points” to finish off your edges.

The parts are designed for a 0.6mm nozzle and 0.32 layer height.  I printed mine using a Prusa XL and polycarbonate CF.

I hope this description makes sense.  I recommend that you print a few parts and play around with it - then the geometry should start making more sense.  One of the cool things about the design is how little stuff is there - it's mostly empty space! - but it can be confusing to the eye when you are putting it together.  Keep referring to the sample layout.  Please let me know if you have any questions!  Good luck!
